Based on two separate reproductions of Shadow Factories (1988) (as published in Brown 1989:36), this working drawing provides illuminating insights into Arkley’s creative method, as noted in Carnival.

The added neon ‘EATS’ sign at lower left indicates a close relationship with Shadow Factories 1991, for which this may be seen as a sketch. Accordingly, the suggested date of this collage has been amended from c.1989-90 (as first proposed in this catalogue) to c.1991.
