In this work, Arkley repeated several images first used in Primitive [mural] (1981) [W/P], including the large headless figure and telephone, centre right here (compare the lower centre of the original work – for a reproduction of the relevant sheet, see general comments above for 1981), and the penis at lower right (for the 1981 image, see Carnival, Fig.6.10).
This painting received significant international exposure through its reproduction in Paul Taylor’s ‘Popism’ article in the May 1983 issue of Flash Art.
