Organic Model (Intuitive Reason) (1976)
Alternate titles: Organic Model D (Intuitive Reason), Organic Model and Primal (Thought Form)
Synthetic polymer paint on canvas, 211.5 x 160.5
signed and titled [verso, on stretcher: ‘H Arkley / Organic Model (Intuitive Reason)’]
Private collection, Melbourne
This work has been exhibited and reproduced under several different titles. It was first shown in 1976-77 as Organic Model D (Intuitive Reason) – a slightly different variant of the inscribed title, preferred here. Later, Primal (Thought Form) was given as the title in the 1991 Monash retrospective and in Spray. Despite the various aliases, a single work is involved, as installation photos make clear.
Large Organic Model (1977) [W/P] is a work on paper version.
