Lattice and Grid (1980)
Synthetic polymer paint on canvas, 162 x 162 (x 7)
University of Queensland Art Museum, St Lucia, Brisbane [2001.89]
This painting is evidently similar to Lattice and Grids 1980, a more complex work included in Arkley’s show at Tolarno 7/81.
In a previous edition of this catalogue, the present work was identified as possibly identical with a painting shown in the 1991 Arkley retrospective at Monash University; however, new information (June 2015) indicates that that work was also in fact Lattice and Grids 1980 (shown at Monash under the alternative title ‘Lattices’).
As things stand, then, the present work appears to lack a documented history pre-dating its acquisition for the UQ art collection in 2001. ID photograph and details shown here kindly provided by Kath Kerswell, Collections Officer, UQ Art Museum Sept.2008, describing the work as ‘from the Crosshatch series no.3’.
Provenance
