Stroke (1975)
Synthetic polymer paint on canvas, 184.5 x 163.5
Collection unknown [last auctioned Feb.2022]
Arkley’s file slides (as reproduced here) are stamped with process date May75, pointing to the possibility that this painting was shown under a different title in his first solo show at Tolarno in April-May 1975, possibly cat.nos.4 or 5 (see exh.details).
Felicity St John Moore, former curator of the NAB collection, mentions that the canvas was considered initially for the HA Monash 1991 exhibition (email correspondence 3/09).
In 2022, the work was auctioned with the NAB collection: see Gellatly 2022, with a good recent photograph.
