Untitled [‘The Second Village’] 1998 [W/P]

Synthetic polymer paint on paper, 74.5 x 54.5

Signed and dated [l.l., within image: ‘Howard Arkley 98’]

Coll.: unknown (last auctioned June 2015)

Variant of Arkley’s Tudor imagery (examples from 1986ff.), often monochrome, as here: compare e.g. Tudor Village (1994) [W/P].

Details of the present work were forwarded to the Arkley Estate Sept.2011 by the former owners, who acquired it with a group of late Arkleys in about 1998. It is unclear whether the title ‘The Second Village’ is original.

The earliest firm documentation of this work is a photo showing it at Metro 5, Melbourne, at the time of the Arkley show there in Feb.2002 (although this work is not listed the exhibition check-list): see details below.
