Wigginsia 1986 [W/P]

Synthetic polymer paint on paper, 76 x 57

Signed, dated & titled [on reverse]

Gold Coast City Gallery, Surfers Paradise, Queensland

Exhibited at Bellas 6/87 (untitled slide in Arkley’s archive), and singled out by a reviewer: ‘Wigginsia…, in its purple/green/yellow glory, could be regarded either as graffiti gesture or simply colorful kitsch’ (Woolcock 1987).

The composition is similar to that of Discocacti 1986 and Discocacti [study] (1986?) [W/P], but in cooler tones. Many thanks to Stephen Baxter, Gold Coast City Gallery exhibition and collection coordinator, for showing me the work, and forwarding a photograph and further details (Oct.2014).
