Untitled [A29] (c.1974-76) [W/P]

Ink & pencil on paper, 31.8 x 25.3 (sheet)

Inscribed in pencil (verso): ‘B’

Private collection, Melbourne

Angled lines and curves appear in various combinations above a series of horizontal lines.

Curiously enough (though almost certainly unintentionally), the details bring to mind a ‘trick’ drawing by the late 16th/early 17th-century Italian painter Annibale Carracci (also a noted caricaturist) – suggesting a jousting knight in the lists, with only his helmet and lance visible (for the image, see e.g. Patrick Cooney, L’opera completa di Annibale Carracci, Milan: Rizzoli, 1976, p.7).
