Suburban Interior (1983)

Synthetic polymer paint on wallpaper on canvas, 159.8 x 120

The Baillieu Myer Collection of the 80s, Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne  [1992.0016]

This widely exhibited work was first shown at Tolarno in 1983, alongside its ‘twin’, Suburban Exterior (1983). Like Suburban 1983, this work plays directly on the theme of interior patterning by using wallpaper as the ground. For detailed analysis, see Lindsay 1994: 32-33, and Carnival 115-16, reproducing sources, working drawings and related works, including Untitled [Suburban study] (1982) [W/P].

For contemporary works sprayed on maps and posters, see Cartographer (After Durer) 1983, Schizo 1983 and Winds of War Graffiti 1983.
