Intoxication (1973?) [W/P]

Coloured ink and synthetic polymer paint, 50 x 63 (sheet), c.41 x 63 (image)
Titled l.r. (below image)
Private collection, Melbourne

This vivid drawing, still in the artist’s studio collection at his death, was presumably the work on paper with this title recorded as entered in the Minnie Crouch Prize in 1973, described as in “coloured ink.”

It is similar in character to (but more colourful than) several other early works, e.g. Untitled [sprayed and linear forms] 1972 [W/P], and could date from either 1972 or 1973.
