Pauses (Interchronic) 1976

Alternate title: Recording Model
Synthetic polymer paint on canvas, 186.5 x 163.4
Private collection, Melbourne

This elegant, minimalist work was exhibited as ‘Pauses (Interchronic)’ in Arkley’s second solo show at Tolarno in 1976 (the title derives from George Kubler, as noted by Smith 2006). Later, it was shown in Arkley’s ‘White + Black’ show at Tolarno, 1995, as ‘Recording Model’.

A Polaroid photo in the artist’s archive is inscribed (not by Arkley): ‘Recording (Scientific Knowledge) 211.5 x 162.5 s+d l.r. 76’ – but these details are erroneous.
